On A Road To Jericho

There once was a man name Evangelism who was traveling to Jericho. Some thieves ambushed him and left him for dead. It was not long when Social Credibility came along. Evangelism cried out, "Help Me." But Social Credibility simply responded, "To help you means I have to claim to know the Truth and I would also have to confront people with their sinfulness. I can not do that." And so he passed by on the other side.

Down the road meandered Giftedness. "Help Me" cried Evangelism. Giftedness responded, "I'm sorry, that is not my gift. To help you requires an expert. Only those who are specially trained and prepared could help you." And so she quickly closed her eyes and walked on.

Who should then walk by but Too Busy. Of course, Too Busy never even heard Evangelism's call for help because he was so self-absorbed in his own agenda and goals.

The next one to chance upon this tragic scene was "Good Example." With even more desperation Evangelism cried out, "Help Me." Good Example smiled, "You know, I've always been on your side! Keep up the good work." But then Good Example continued, "I believe that if I just be me I will be helping you and you will get well. I wish I could do more than this, but my brothers Social Credibility and Fear have warned me what would happen if I became more involved. Just remember, although I won't actually get involved with you, I'm on your side!" And with another kind smile Good Example just walked on.

By the time Preacher approached this lonely spot on the road, Evangelism was well on his way towards entering into shock. "Wow you need some help, I wish I could do something. But my schedule won't permit it. You see I am already late on my preparation for two sermons and a couple of classes. And even though I am not the pastor, some sheep expect me to devote time to pastorally caring for them. So he hurried on to catch up to Too Busy.

Evangelism just groaned and remained quiet as WeHaveAlreadyTriedThat began to approach. Evangelism knew it was useless to even say a word and so WeHaveAlreadyTriedThat passed by feeling justified.

When You & I came upon the scene, Evangelism had already passed out. But You & I stopped. Sure You & I felt inadequate to the task and desperately behind schedule. But Evangelism is important; he must not die. And so You & I became involved showing love to a neighbor.
