We are now offering some of our Sunday sermons in MP3 sound file format. We are using a MP3 encoder that reduces the sound files to twelve times their original WAV file size. If you know of a better one please contact me.
Q) What does this mean?
A) You can now listen to some of our sermons on your computer or MP3 player.

Q) Is there any other way I can listen to the sermon file without downloading it?
A) Yes, by Streaming the data. But you will need the following:
    1) A modem conection rate of 28.8 kb/s or better. (Firewalls can prevent a Stream flow.)
    2) WinAmp's "Play Location" or Microsoft's Media Player's "Open File" feature and enter:
        " http://www.sjchurchofchrist.org/8-12-01.mp3 " ,  it's just that easy.

Q) How long will it take to download a sermon file?
A) This all depends upon your modem and your connect rate: (example for a 3.3 Megabyte file)
    1) For a 28.8 kb/s connect rate was: ~20 min. (3300000 / 172800 = (19.10 min. + overhead))
    2) For a 53.0 kb/s connect rate was: ~11 min. (3300000 / 318000 = (10.40 min. + overhead))

Q) What can I do to get a "better" sound from the MP3 file?
A) Download and install WinAmp v3.0 for the PC (and MacAmp for the Apple). Then use it's Equalizer. First try cutting (notching) out the 6 kHz - 16 kHz bandwidths. This is done by sliding down the switch levers to their lowest positions. You can also adjust it to how you like to hear it. (For WinAmp only: Remember to turn "on" the equalizer and also the "auto" setting.)

Q) Are there any other programs or plug-in that can improve the sound quality?
A) Yes, there is a software program for PCs called DFX. The program is used with WinAmp to round out the sound quality to near "Stereo Quality". Programs and Plug-in's can be found from: DFX. For a limmited time a new trial plug-in can be downloaded for WinAmp v3.0. It's free and will never time out.
