Jesus Is Risen!
On one Sunday morning many years ago, the angels
announced to some women who had gone to a tomb, "Why do you seek the
living One among the dead? He is not here; he has risen." For those
who are willing to listen, the resurrection was not just another
incidental event in the stream of history, rather it contributes to
the very basis of Christian faith, life and anticipation for the
future.
- Because Jesus could foretell of the
inevitable victory which would follow his rejection and
death (Matthew 16:21; 20:19), we learn about God's sovereignty and
power.
- By his resurrection Jesus was declared to be
the Son of God with power. Romans 1:4
- The resurrection of Jesus was followed by his
enthronement at the right hand of the Father. Acts 2:30-31; 1
Corinthians 15:20, 26 With the resurrection, Jesus has received
all authority and he has been made Lord. Matthew 28:18; Acts
2:33-36
- Being joined to Jesus' death and resurrection
through baptism is to shape how a disciple lives. Colossians 2:12;
3:1-2; Romans 6:3-6
- The empty tomb guarantees that those who trust
in Jesus will also be raised from the dead. 1 Corinthians 15:20
Accordingly, the resurrection assures us of a living hope. 1 Peter
1:3
- Through the resurrection, God has provided
proof to all men that one day everyone will encounter a righteous
judgment. Acts 17:31
Through an empty tomb, God has revealed to us a
certain future as well as confirmed God's answer to that question
which Jesus put forth to humanity, "Who do you say that I am?" This
event transformed the apostles from those who fled on the night of
his arrest to become bold proclaimers of the gospel before the
authorities. May his resurrection also shape our faith and
lives.
